Cheerleaders earn awards
Children’s University Cheerleading Squad of Arlington was the youngest group at the SMU Cheer Camp this summer. They participated with junior high and senior high school cheerleaders. There were about 80-90 teams at camp this year.
They earned four superior ribbons (the highest you can get) for excellence in executing cheers and chants during evaluation. The team also earned two spirit sticks.
There were about 18 teams in the junior high school division. They were one of two teams in the division to earn a technical excellence award for displaying superior skills in stunts. They were voted on by all the teams in their division as the team with the most spirit and they were given a Herkie Spirit Award for this achievement.
Out of the 18 teams in their division, the CU Cheerleaders won the Gameday Cheer Championship Trophy for performing their cheer with excellence and motivating the crowd.
Out of the 80 to 90 teams that attended camp, only four teams earned that award.
